03/28/2007 - Run
I was just up and down during this, I could not for the life of me keep a consistent pace.

It was either short run or none, I choose short. Although not a bad run, I had wanted to get closer to a 7 minute mile. I rarely consider a run bad, they are just to much fun. I love this time of year, right when it’s starting to get real warm (at least here in Florida) but not super hot where you sweat just walking out the door.

Another day another run. It was nice out today, sunny and warm with a little breeze. Could not be much better. You can tell by my time I am feeling better also, just over 4 miles and at a 7:38 pace. Now I just need to slow down, I need to “learn” what a 12 minute mile feels like.
12 minute miles for 50 miles would be 10 hours. That with some rest and eat/drink time should hopefully put me at a 11 hour finish. The course closes at the 12 hour mark, hopefully it will not come to that, but only the day will tell. Once I get started that day I will know better by how I feel and how many calories and how much fluid I am able to handle. Less than 2 weeks now!
1 commentMy last “long run”
Here is my Nike+ graph and some photo’s that were taken from my last ultra event. It was a 50k Trail Run back in October of 2006. Just thought it would be fun to share.
Hopefully I can keep as even a pace in the 50 miler. I have to tell you I am getting real nervous.
And here are two photo’s that were taken, the first is during the race and the second is just after crossing the finish line. I felt really good at the finish, much better than I have felt at many marathons. I managed to stay well hydrated and even got alot of calorie’s in.

This was a pretty good run, an “it felt good to be back” run. Granted it was only 4 miles, still not long enough (at least for my goals) but I am happy with it overall.
Just under 4 miles at just over 8 minutes per mile and I felt really good when I was done. It was a warm and sunny day and I ran at almost 2 in the afternoon with only a bagel and coffee for breakfast. This run was also done just after washing both my car and motorcycle. Stupid yes, but I need to test what my body can do. Running 50 miles takes alot, not only endurance wise, but you also need to know how your body will function with little or nothing in it.
I know there are alot of people that will disagree with my methods, but they have worked in the past for long distance events to include both a 50k Trail Run and Ironman Triathlons. I enjoy running, for me its fun, it is a lifestyle but not one that I want to overtake my life. I am a runner or an endurance athlete but that is not all I am. I run for fun, not to follow a schedule. Although I have had thoughts of getting on a good training program because there are some marathon goals that I have (PR related).

I should not wait as long to post about my run because I end up forgetting anything that had come to mind to write about. Either way this was a short slow run. A good first day back.
