03/14/2007 - Run
So I was making progress, small but at least steady. I was not running huge distances but at least consistent shorter runs, which would work for me. Then it happened again, something got in the way. Running along last Wednesday my usual run course and just about 50 feet from the house, I try to move from the street to the sidewalk and run across a neighbors grass, and hit a small hole. Nothing big, I certainly did not see it, but I guess I put my foot in there just right. A twisted and swollen ankle. It was also kind of funny because I fell sprawling out on my stomach and face. At least I can laugh at myself.
So between not feeling “right” for a while and now a sprained ankle. I decided to do what I should have done when I started feeling sick. I took a week off. So Wednesday to Wednesday I did not run. With that I lost a week of training and endurance but I feel good and really want to run. So I guess it worked out somewhat good.
Here is my last run from the 14th with more posts to follow…
Sorry about not updated over the course of the week, but with not running I was a bit bummed and did not want to think about writing a running blog. If or when this happens again I may at least try to post a quick update so you don’t think I ran away. “Pun Intended” ![]()

Better than it has been but still not where it should be.
I am still feeling pretty bad but will be ok. Just going to do some consistent runs this week, nothing crazy. I was getting real worried about my lack off distance lately and then I remembered that as long as I have a good base (which I do) I should be fine. I trained for my first Ironman swim never having swam 2.4 miles. I swam 4-5 times a week for 20-25 minutes each session and completed the swim great. That made me feel better about this run.
I have the base, I just need to go the distance.
Live Blogging My Upcoming 50 Miler
So as you may know I am getting ready to run the Croom Trail 50 Mile Fools Run on April 7th here in Brooksville, Florida. This run is 3 lap’s around a loop on the Croom Hiking Trail. I am both excited and very nervous at the same time. I am almost having second thoughts.
I have been toying with an idea that I have never done before, live blogging an event. First off I plan to put my phone (Blackberry) in my Camelbak just in case. See the run starts at 6am and has a 6pm cutoff, I plan to finish around 5pm. This run is a 3 loop course through the woods so not much for spectators. With that my wife and mother are going to drop me off in the morning and return later in the day, my phone is for that just in case. Hopefully not an emergency. Note to self, remember to eat and drink.
I have recently began using 2 geeky web items, Twitter & Tumblr and have been using Flickr for a while. Twitter is an easy kind of like IM to the Web thing and Tumblr is sort of a mini-blog. I am thinking about blogging the run. Every 5-10 miles I will make a Twit (post on Twitter) and maybe a Tumble (post on Tumblr) and will try to upload a photo or 10 of myself with my camera phone. The good part about this is that the Flickr photo’s and the Twitter post’s will all show up on my Tumblr site. So if you want to follow my journey to complete a 50 mile run then check me out here (http://robertnelson.tumblr.com/ on April 7th. Remember it starts at 6am with a 6pm cut-off.
My Twitter Page: Twitter
My Flickr Photo’s: Flickr
My Tumblr Site: Tumblr
So check me out at one or all of the above on April 7th, but remember if you check the Tumblr site you will get all 3 anyway. Hopefully this will work, as long as I can get a signal, which I am not to worried about. I will be in the woods, but not that far out there. It should work, I hope so because not only I am doing this for other’s to read and see but hopefully it will act as a distraction from the actual event for me and make it a bit easier to complete, at least on my mind, maybe not my body.
So on Saturday April 7th I invite you to join me as I (we) run a 50 mile trail run!
03/12/2007 - Run
Today is the 12th and my last run was on the 8th. Thursday till Monday. Which means no run on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. It’s a shame because those are the days that I tend to enjoy running the most, I have more time and less other stuff to do. But like I mentioned in my last run post, I have been feeling real bad. I thought if maybe I actually give myself a break I would feel better. At this point I am WAY under the miles I should be running so I felt a few days off to get better would be better than running and making it get any worse.
Today was not to bad, I only ran just under 3 miles and felt pretty good. Well at least better than I had, but still not normal. I am going to take it easier with consistent short runs this week. Hopefully this will pass, or I am going to have extreme difficulty with a 50 miler. Yes, I am scared now!

One word - Horrible
There is really not much else to say. I truly enjoy running. Except for the past short while. I am still looking forward to my runs but I am feeling horrible. During the course of normal day I have been feeling a little bit run down, just a bit more tired than I should be. However while running I am feeling real bad, I have been experiencing some feelings that I have not had before. Really dry mouth, a lot of phlegm and spit, but from deep if that makes sense, and a real hard time breathing. Its strange, almost like I am sick but when not running I am feeling fine. I hope is passes soon.
