My great disappearance
So I seem to have fallen of the face of the earth. I had been pretty good about posting and keeping this up to date, and I still am. Sort of…I say sort of because I have been posting all that I have been running. Which lately has not been much.
It all started way back when on April 12th, it was a Thursday and I had not been feeling that hot. I decided to not run on Friday in anticipation of a long Saturday run. But by Friday night I felt bad and went to sleep around 7pm, and did not wake up Saturday at all. I slept almost straight through till Sunday mid-morning. Wow, I could not believe that and I still felt bad to top it off. I decided to take this as a sign that I needed some rest, my body must have been telling me something.
So I decided to just not run for a while and see how things went, it took me over a week to really feel “good” and I said that I would not run till a few days after I felt good at least. So that one planned day off turned into 2.5 weeks and I actually feel good. I have said before that I run for fun so it is really ok. Not a big deal, except that I really missed it mentally.
These 2+ weeks have given me a fresh start and I am actually thinking about my October race and have almost decided to go on a training program to really do well. Last year I did the 31 miles in 5 hours and 55 minutes and have decided that this year I would like to cut off 31 minutes from last years time. That is one minute per mile. I know a pretty lofty goal but I think I can do it. Plus I like crazy goals and testing myself, it gives me something to work for and forces me to work harder. Plus if I say it here I feel like I have to do it.
I found a training program that was made for a Ultra Running, its a Hal Higdon plan. I am looking at it and making a few changes to fit my schedule a little better. Its a 24 week program so this is perfect timing for a October 13th race. I am going to try to hold myself to the miles, but I am sure some of them will be cut due to time. I love to run but have a family and some of these weekends would put me at 9 hours of running for just Sat & Sun, something I am not ready to take away from my family time. I also want to incorporate 2 days of biking in each week. See, I started with triathlons before running took over and plan to do an Ironman in October of 2008, still more than a year away but I like to (and think the) cross training will help. Swimming will hold off till after this October, then go back into 3 sports full swing.
So for now stay tuned for more to come on me actually following a training schedule, and yes I will post it here once I have it complete. Enjoy and have fun running.
