John Holmes 50k Trail Run :: Registered

My next event. It’s a while away but that is ok. I made sure to sign up early so I would not miss out. The race is the John Holmes 50k Trail Run here in Brooksville, Florida. I ran this event last year in just over 5 hours and 55 minutes.

Last year when I ran this I felt great and finished feeling much better than I had at most Marathons, I hope I can beat my time from last year (at least by a few minutes) and still say the same thing.

04/07/2007 - Run

A nice Saturday run. This was the day I was supposed to be running my long run. It’s to bad because it was near perfect running weather for me. Slightly overcast, gentle but steady wind and about 60 degrees. I could not ask for more.

Today was just one of those days that you could run all day long, I am sure you know what I mean. I set out to do a 6 mile run, my typical 6 mile loop and then shower and go out with my wife and daughter, except that at the 6 mile mark I decided to loop around my neighborhood, which adds about 2 more, and about halfway through I was wanting more so I decided I would again leave the neighboorhood and head out and back again. I knew there was a stop light at the school and that is about a mile from the house, so that would add about 2 more.

Put me at just over 10 miles for the day with a 7:27 pace. Excellent run for me. I actually wanted to keep going but did not want to break the family plans. I could have easily gone for a while longer. I love being a runner!

04/05/2007 - Run

I AM A RUNNER!

I like to run and I am glad I can say that. I had a real nice run, a typical 4 mile run, nothing fancy, but it’s a nice day today. A bit cloudy, but that makes it a bit nicer to run without the hot Florida sun beating you down. I have bounced back from my down feeling that I had about this weekend. A little frustration can be good sometimes, makes me feel kind of refreshed and like I am starting fresh.

I did find a new ultra event to run, it’s just not close to now. October 13th is the day, and it’s the John Holmes 50k, a nice trail run right here in Brooksville. I did this even last year and was able to finish in just over 5 hours and 55 minutes. Now I can go back and know the course and try to beat my time from last year.

I am also going to sign up early for this. I already checked and registration opens on Monday, so I am going to register on Monday. I am not taking any chance. That was a lousy lesson to learn. So it’s a while away but a good race to pick. I am focusing now on Ultra Events and unfortunately there are not many close. By close I mean events that I can run without having to go on “vacation” to enter. Aside from these Ultra events I have and will continue to run the Goofy Challenge at Disney.

Run 2007/04/05

04/04/2007 - Run

So I took a day off and now I feel better, still upset at myself but its ok. A nice 4 mile run and it felt good. I am not able to do the run I had planned this Saturday but there is another race in Brooksville that same day, what are the chances. (This is kind of a small town.) It’s only a 10k but it may still be nice to do an event, even if it’s shorter than intended. Like I mentioned in a previous post I have never run a real event shorter than a half marathon, so this may be fun. It will be a challenge for myself pace wise. May be fun to see what I can do.

I think I will be doing it, the weather is going to be cooler than normal, should be in the low to mid 60’s for the event, great running weather. At least for me.

Run 2007/04/04

04/02/2007 - Run

Well here is, in all its 2 mile glory. Sorry for the sarcasm I am just frustrated today, disappointed in myself for not registering in time for Saturday’s event.

I went out today for a 6 mile run and ended up running 2. See the loop around my neighborhood is 2 miles, I had intended to run around the neighborhood then go out the gate and up the road 2 miles, then come back the 2 miles and finish at my house for just over 6 miles.

However I just did not want to run today, this is the first time in a long time I just did not want to be running. Bad day, I will get over it. I am sure by tomorrow I will be ready to get back out and get going again.

I still have not decided on the 10k for Saturday but I will make up my mind by this afternoon. I should run it, at least it would be something, granted not the test I wanted but it may be fun to see how I could run a 10k now. I have never run an official event shorter than a half-marathon before. I wonder how I would do time wise. Maybe a good challenge for myself.

Run 2007/04/02

Call me an idiot…

…normally I am not one to wait to do something. I am pretty OCD and like to prepare early and get things prepped so I do not have to worry about last minute items or mishaps. Actually I am very OCD and that is why I am so upset at myself.

I waited to long and now missed registration for the 50 miler I was planning on running Saturday. Wow, talk about training and preparing for nothing. What a way to learn a lesson.

Like I said I am usually very good about registering early for a race, usually I register months early or in the case of Disney the day registration opens. I always fear missing out, and I just did.

So now I decide whether or not to run another local event here in Brooksville, the 28th Annual Flatlanders Challenge. It’s only a 10k, no where near the distance I wanted to be running but at least it would be something. It is also a local event so it would not be an issue to make it. No hotel or anything needed.

I am foolish, so take a hard learned lesson and DO NOT wait to register for an event you want to do. In the future I would rather lose the registration fee if I could not make it then miss out on the chance.

I am also sorry to anyone who was wanting to “watch” me run this event. I will make it next year!

Running Totals

202.11 Total from January 1 - March 31. Well on my way to my 1000 for the year, but my March total is way to low!

March Running Totals

My March total was the lowest month so far, pretty bad considering I am going to be running a 50 miler next week. Especially considering that my March total was only 47.28. Less than I am going to run in just 1 day. If I am going to be an Ultra Runner I need to run more. :)

Good thing I run for fun!
